Artist's statement
The natural environment, plants and flowers are always a recurring theme of my work. I am inspired by the things that surround me everyday: the birds in the old apple tree outside my studio window, the seed pods I collected in the autumn, and the fat buds appearing in the spring.
I am in my favourite place when I'm painting in my garden studio with my cat and Radio Four for company. My work is very varied and designed to appear on an eclectic mix of products from packaging for specialist teas to postage stamps for the Guernsey Post. But illustration can be a solitary business, and I also enjoy 'escaping'; running workshops and teaching botanical illustration at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
