Artist's statement
My paintings reflect my take on life in the 21st century. I am drawn in the main to images of people in commonplace situations, often urban, perhaps with an added element; an unorthodox viewpoint or a touch of irony.
I have consciously moved away from the painterly to a form of realism, as a way of engaging the viewer whilst trying to avoid cliché and the safe option.
Having trained as a lithographic artist, my work is still informed (and sometimes dogged) by the nature of the discipline, but I always try to turn that experience to the benefit of my paintings.
I find acrylics quite the best medium for my purposes, affording clarity and crispness of detail, their fast-drying characteristics are also in tune with my impatience to get it done.
