Artist's statement
My light and airy studio, in a converted barn on our farm, is the perfect place to work. Much inspiration comes from my travels and, of course, the nearby coastal areas and surrounding countryside. Something as simple as a colour, shape or smell may set off an idea. I like to use many different media in my paintings. Building layer upon layer with tissue, newsprint, ink, paint and pencil, all adding depth to a piece. Words play an important part in my work too; often a sort of diary of thoughts whilst sitting watching lapping waves or birds soar.
