One of my favourite activities is spotting beautiful colour combinations and shapes while out walking. I try to recreate the joy and energy of the scenes, starting with laying down gouache colour washes onto paper and working onto them with further layers of paint, ink and painted collage,building up the image, organically, layer by layer. I love the hands-on nature of this process, trying things, moving pieces of collage around. The finished image is usually a bit surprising and unexpected, and that’s where the fun and excitement is. There will be music playing, I’m a radio addict!
