EAST ANGLIAN SCHOOLS PORTRAIT PRIZE
Cambridge Arts Centre is inviting school children
of all ages to enter its newly-launched East Anglian Schools Portrait Prize.
Selected entries will be displayed at Norfolk’s Anteros Arts Centre,
with the winner being awarded a framed pastel portrait of him/herself created
by professional artist Will Teather, worth £800.
There will be an exhibition of commended works alongside the winner’s
portrait, on the weekends of 12 and 19 December 2009.
Teather, a strong believer in the importance of observational drawing, has
previously completed portraits of a number of public figures including Lord
Walpole, the singer Ana Silvera, and the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter
Stephen. His portrait of Ana Silvera was recently shortlisted for the international
Celeste Prize. He is the resident artist for the Bergh Apton Anteros Arts
Centre during 2009.
‘Portraiture is one the key areas where figurative artists can make
a living,’ says Will. ‘Heightening young people’s awareness
of this I see as a very positive thing. I look forward to discovering some
great new artistic talents in the region.’
John Hemmant, Anteros Arts Centre Director adds, ‘One of the aims
of the Anteros Arts Centre is to introduce young people to art projects
that develop their creativity and focus; allowing them to create competent
work they are proud of within a supportive environment.’
