I
have admired Sir Hugh Casson’s drawings for a long time. Like him,
I draw wherever I go, but I rework the drawings as watercolour-painted paper
collages involving sometimes hundreds of pieces of paper, cut and layered.
I developed this technique when living in the US, when my oils were impounded
by a dock strike.
I treasure a drawing Sir Hugh did in the 1960s of me and my husband dancing.
He presented me with a prize for my work with paper at the 1983 RA exhibition,
and opened a London one-woman show of mine in 1989.
My principle objective in the images I have shown here is to capture the
spirit of the places I visited.
For anyone wanting a commission, the average waiting time is approximately
three months.
