Salthouse 10: Landmark
8 July - 8 August, SalthouseE Church on North Norfolk Coast
Open 10 - 5.30 every day, free of charge (See below for further special events)

The well-established formula for the Salthouse exhibitions of some of the best of Norfolk contempory art is rather different for this, the 10th year of what has become a major county art exhibition. Instead of the opens calls to artists, which were established by 2003, the voluntary present and previous members of the North Norfolk Exhibition Committee are exhibiting, together with their personally invited artists. About 40 artists in 2 and 3d will be on show. Being a member of the Committee has never been a way to be sure of exhibiting: the independent curators, who have brought such diverse and fascinating exhibitions, have chosen artists to fit their particular visions.
The show also has a particular poignancy for this is the last organised by a group of totally voluntary Committee members who have been working in the interests of North Norfolk contemporary artists from the first or second exhibition, but who are retiring after this exhibition.
Retiring are: Projects Director John Millwood (one of Norfolk's "heroes", Norfolk Coast Guardian), who has worked tirelessly to put Salthouse on the must-see map; painter Margie Britz, the Organising Secretary without whose initial vision Salthouse Church would not have survived as a working church; noted King's Lynn sculptor, Andrew Schumann; textile artist and painter and enthusiastic chair of the Workshops committtee, Sally Lawford; sculptor Colin Miller; Yvonne Millwood, who achieved press, radio and tv coverage as well as organising the evening arts events which are such a feature of the Salthouse exhibitions; and the indespensible Jan Mattocks. Andrew and Margie have acted as facilitators for this exhibition.
John Millwood says "Sad though I am to be leaving after so many successful years, I am happy with the dedication that is being shown by the new, somewhat younger people who are replacing us: we retirees are content that the show will carry on in safe hands."
Evening arts events: all at the church at 7.30, all tickets £8 at the exhibition, Holt and Wells Tourist Information Centres (Email), on the door on the night.
