Traditionally, Wednesday was designated as the day of the week devoted to mending and sewing, repairing clothes and darning socks!
This framed miniature original print captures a bygone age, a nostalgic look at chores!
I created the print by hand, using the drypoint etching printmaking technique.
By scratching into a polypropylene plate with an etching needle, a raised ‘bur’ is created, which holds the ink that is applied.
Ink is wiped onto, and off, the plate before it is put through the press with dampened paper. The paper picks up the ink transfer, and the reversed image is revealed!
This must be done for each and every print - which is why each one looks slightly different from the others in the print run. They are all individual, that is part of their charm!
