After breakfast I escape to my studio with my cat, Willie, where I heat up the wax pot, select mood music for the day, then settle down to work. Batik is a resist method of dyeing; hot wax, applied to the cloth or paper, blocks those areas so dye is unable to penetrate. Waxing and dyeing are alternated until the desired effect is achieved. The processes I follow constantly lead me in new directions and I have been exploring its potential for the past thirty years. I’m inspired by my local landscape, my rambling garden and images remembered from my travels.
