'Tapestry of Leaves' is a limited edition giclée print taken from an eco, botanical contact print, with the fern leaf printed using my Gunning etching press.
Eco printing, or botanical contact printing, is a contemporary adaptation of the ancient art of dyeing cloth or paper with plant-based inks. Leaves are arranged on paper, which is then tightly bound so that they are in close contact. When left in heated water, vinegar, tannin rich materials and rusty iron, the plants leave behind impressions of their shapes, textures, and tonal values on the paper.
