Do you love the way chickens wander around, pecking and clucking? They are very funny, lovable birds, and this miniature original print was inspired by my own chicken - Princess Layer.
I created the print by hand, using the drypoint etching printmaking technique.
By scratching into a polypropylene plate with an etching needle, a raised ‘bur’ is created, which holds the ink that is applied.
Ink is wiped onto, and off, the plate before it is put through the press with dampened paper. The paper picks up the ink transfer, and the reversed image is revealed!
The photos show some of the steps in the process.
This must be done for each and every print - which is why each one looks slightly different from the others in the print run. They are all individual, that is part of their charm!
