As a reply to the old adage ‘the early bird captures the worm’, this framed original print is based on the phrase ‘ah, but the second mouse gets the cheese!’
I created the print by hand, using the drypoint etching printmaking technique.
By scratching into a polypropylene plate with an etching needle, a raised ‘bur’ is created, which holds the ink that is applied.
Ink is wiped onto, and off, the plate before it is put through the press with dampened paper. The paper picks up the ink transfer, and the reversed image is revealed!
This must be done for each and every print - which is why each one looks slightly different from the others in the print run. They are all individual, that is part of their charm!
